ED 126 Activity 2

 LEARNING LOG#1

The 21st century skills that I need to develop are my communication skills and productivity. Firstly, is my communication skills. I have always been struggling in terms of communicating, specially when I am talking in front of many people. I don't have enough capabilities when it comes to public speaking. I always have a stage fright and yet, I am still doing my best to overcome it. I think one of the most effective way to develop my communication skills is through practicing. Practice on how to deliver my points in way that will interest my audience. By developing this skill, It will be easier for me to speak and do presentations. Second is my productivity. I have always been procrastinating even though I still have lots of errands to do specially in academics. I think setting some goals is one of the best way to develop this skill.

As a future teacher, I will develop the 21st century skills among my students through letting them interact, and collaborate with their peers. Learning is more effective if there is participation and exchange of ideas. Effective teachers are more like moderators, offering inspiration and guiding students to discover themselves. I will give my future students the opportunity to be self-learners, which guarantees lifelong learning. I will also encourage my future students to be creative.

Creative activities allow students to express what they have learned in a new way. This synthesizing and personalizing of knowledge consolidates learning, and creates an experience that remains with students long after the class is over. In addition, I will also let them develop critical thinking skills. Students use these skills to solve problems in new situations, which they can also possibly use and apply in real life situations in the future.

LEARNING LOG#2

The ISTE standards that I think I possessed are being a digital citizen and empowered learner. One of the personal experiences wherein I portrayed those standards are during my Prof ED classes like ED 125, ED 129 especially in my ED 125 class last semester which focuses more of using or implementing technology in the class. There I recognized the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of living, learning and working in an interconnected digital world. Empowered learner on the other hand, I took an active role in choosing, achieving and demonstrating competency in my learning goals.

LEARNING LOG #3

The tool that I found useful that is appropriate in my subject is the Web 2.0 tools. I found it useful and appropriate because the website is easy to use even by non-experts. Aside from its usability, it is also collaborative. It is collaborative in a sense that the website allows users to work on the same content within the site. It is interactive, multi-purpose, easy-to-use digital platform that encourage students to collaborate with each other or create and share individualized response product.

I will incorporate these tool through providing of engaging ways students can interact with, and most importantly, learn from course material. They are particularly helpful when aligned to teaching and assessment exercises meant to increase student engagement, require students to summarize information, or verbalize insight into their conceptual understanding through means, other than traditional writing exercises.

I will use these tools in my future teaching profession through using these in my classroom. There are a lot of benefits foe me as a future teacher by supporting my teaching goals and increasing the learning capabilities of my future students.

LEARNING LOG#4

We need to develop self-directed learners because it is the ability to self-assess understanding and it is an essential tool for self-directed learning. Through self-reflection, students clarify ideas of what they are supposed to learn. They begin to internalize the expectation that they can learn. Self-directed learning also helps us encode information and retain it overtime.

As a future teacher, I will help my students become self-directed learners through providing scaffolding. I will scaffold my future students so that they can accomplish the tasks they could otherwise not complete without assistance. I will support them so that they will become independent, and self-directed learners in the long run.

The student support materials that I will be providing to my future students to help them become self-directed is through the use of the internet. It is a support and structure for students to learn new information and to guide my students with a discussion. It will help students understand well what they are learning.

LEARNING LOG#5

The topic that I found most significant is all about scaffolding. I found it important because we, as future teachers, should know our responsibilities and providing scaffolding to our future students is a must. Without scaffolding, students will not become a lifelong effective learners because there is a possibility that they will just depend on you which is not good. We must provide scaffolding but just temporarily so that our future students will become independent in a sense that they can now stand on their own and become a lifelong learners.

The topic that I found most difficult to understand is all about the Design Principles. Maybe because I was not that satisfied the way the other reporter delivered their report. I found it difficult to understand or comprehend if the delivery is not that clear enough.

I think the website is very useful because it is easier for us students to access the website by just searching it on Google. We can easily work even when we are not in our homes. I would suggest that you would add more graphics on it so that the website would become more engaging and interesting for users.

It was indeed inspiring and engaging to me as an ED126 student because, I was able to learn new things, especially about the 21st century skills that we need to develop as we become future teachers. I was able to collaborate with my other classmates, which is very helpful because I enhanced my communication skills. I was able to enhance my digital skills through using the computer for educational purposes.

I think the ways that I can suggest to improve the teaching and learning process in educational technology subject (ED 126), is to encourage more the students to work harder, because I can see that some of my classmates are not that determined enough about the course.
